All Scout Leaders – there was recently a life-threatening incident involving a new Tiger Cub. The Scout had a severe reaction to something he ate at a pack meeting. Please make sure you get Health Forms for new Scouts (and leaders!) and updates for all current members of your Unitas soon as possible after they register. Allergies and other medical issues should be identified and carefully considered within unit operational policies. This is also a good time to review Emergency Procedures with all your unit leadership.
Please contact a commissioner if you would like help or guidance on establishing protocols for dealing with issues like this. Does your Unit have a Health & Safety Chair? Access the Guide to Safe Scouting here. There is a great deal of information about Health & Safety available from the BSA here.
Award nominations will be due SOON!

Annual renewal of Merit Badge Counselors is currently taking place. Emails have been sent to most Counselors. For those that have no email address of record or where your email address bounced (i.e., you haven’t received anything about renewing!), please contact Paul Leming (District Advancement Chair) ASAP at (248) 628-7392 or scoutingdude@sbcglobal.net. Do NOT contact the council office or send information to the office. They do not do the renewals. All responses must be in the hands of Paul by January 27.
Thanks to each of the counselors that volunteer their time and knowledge to the boys of our District!
A number of opportunities are coming up for Cub Leader Training. Please pass this info along to Leaders, Committee Members and involved parents. Click on the links below for more info on each opportunity!
While Leader Specific training can be taken online, the training on March 10 is face to face in Waterford, allowing you to ask the questions you’ve been dying to ask!
For packs planning to camp this year, you must have a BALOO trained leader at the campout. A good practice is to have a couple of adults in your pack trained just in case one leader can’t make it. May 5 at Camp Agawam – get it on your calendar now!
Webelos Den Leaders that would like to take their Webelos dens camping must have an Outdoor Skills for Webelos Leader trained adult at the campout. This is also a great time for Bears leaders that will be moving to a Webelos den to take the training. May 5 at Camp Agawam – get it on your calendar now!
GLC is offering Range Officer training March 25 at Camp D-A. A great opportunity for you to get some adults trained as range officers allowing your Pack to reserve ranges out at Camp Agawam. Why wait until Day Camp to take the Scouts out for a little BB Gun and Archery?
Thursday, April 19, 2012 Cost is $20.00 / person |

The Unit Award of Appreciation is designed to recognize a Scouter, a parent, or a chartered organization that has performed exceptional service at the unit level. This service could be continuous or for one specific program. Recipients will be recognized at the Chippewa District Dinner. Limit of one award recipient annually for each unit. Please contact the District Volunteer Recognition Awards Chair for more details.
The unit has selected the recipient of the Unit Award of Merit and it will be presented by the unit to the recipient at the District Dinner. Support your unit in saying "Thank You" to the person that has given that extra effort."
The District Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils. The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district level. A professional Scouter or other council employee may not receive this award based on employment service. However, a professional Scouter or employee who also serves as a volunteer Scouter may be eligible, based on volunteer service.
Do you have an OUTSTANDING PERSON in your pack, troop or crew that fits this description? If so, take a moment to recognize their service to Scouting by nominating them for the District Award of Merit.
Application Deadline: February 9, 2012
"The District Award of Merit will be presented to those people that have given that extra effort to support our units at the District level. Come and ask them how Scouting has affected their lives."
