If you’ve not been involved in a classroom Counselor training session now is the time to do it. Ojibwa District also recommends and encourages every counselor to renew their training at least once every two years. This allows you to update yourself on the latest information from National, the council, and our district. New merit badge requirements from the past year will be included. This is also an opportunity for new people who would like to be counselors to become involved.
This is also a great opportunity to meet with other counselors and compare notes, and to interact with the members of your district advancement committee. We will also discuss your required annual re-registration at this same meeting. Please join us for this important meeting. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
With thanks from your district advancement committee:

The 2010 Ojibwa Pinewood Derby is all new, with fun categories that will challenge all Scouts. Each category is open
to all registered Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos Scouts, and their siblings in the district.
The District Annual Pinewood Derby Race with a new twist. In addition to the racing fun this year, Scouts will no
longer race by rank but by class of car they created. This will allow all Scouts to be creative and design cars that are fun
and cool, not just fast. The Scouts will have an opportunity to learn about different activity badges and accomplish a
portion of them. More information, the pinewood derby rules, and online registration may be found on the Activities Page.
We are on the lookout for Scouters to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to Scouting. We have two levels of recognition in Ojibwa District.
The first is the Ojibwa District Unit Award of Appreciation. This is a selection made by the units for a Scouter, parent, sponsor, etc. who has helped the unit achieve a quality program. One award per unit is allowed and the award will be presented to the recipient at the Annual Ojibwa District Dinner on April 20, 2010. We are looking for 100% participation from our units in Ojibwa District. The selection process is straightforward, 1) select the person in your unit to receive the award 2) submit the form 3) invite the recipient to the dinner and 4) turn in the dinner registration form with your nomination. The deadline for submission is April 5, 2010.
The second award is the District Award of Merit. This is presented to a Scouter who renders extraordinary service to Scouting at the District level. This could be one major contribution or a long term contribution (training, roundtable, camping, FOS, commissioner, etc.). The district Award of Merit committee makes the selection based on the information submitted on the nomination form. If you feel you know of someone who is deserving of this award, please nominate them. Furnish as much information as you can on the nomination form. This may require contacting a spouse or a scouter who is familiar with the nominee. The award will be presented at the District Dinner on April 20, 2010. The deadline for submission is March 15, 2010.
The District Award of Merit and Unit Award of Merit may be turned in to Mike Thomas or Dave Putt. If you have any questions, please contact Dave Putt.
