What do we mean by two times as Scoutmaster attending a National Jamboree?

If you have attended a National Jamboree as a Scoutmaster of a troop twice you will not be considered for a leadership role for the 2013 National Jamboree (Example 2nd assistant Scoutmaster 2005 and Scoutmaster 2010 – Not eligible or 2nd assistance Scoutmaster 2010 and 1st Assistant Scoutmaster 2001 – Not eligible)

What is the required number of uniforms that a Scout needs to bring to the National Jamboree?

It is recommended that each Scout bring three Boy Scout uniforms, one of which must be the current edition. (Socks, shorts, Shirt with correct badges, belt)

What is the age requirement to attend the National Jamboree?

Boy Scout/Varsity Scout

  • Must be at least First Class Scouts.
  • Must be at least 12 years of age by the first day of the jamboree or an 11 year old that has graduated the 6th grade, but has not reached their 18th birthday by the last day of the jamboree.

Venturer

  • Must have graduated the 8th grade or be at least 14 years of age by the first day of the jamboree, but have not reached their 21st birthday by the last day of the jamboree.

What training do adults need to complete prior to the National Jamboree?

All National jamboree Scoutmaster will be required to have Youth Protection, Scoutmaster/assistant Scoutmaster and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.

What is the Pre Jamboree Trip?

There will be a two or three day GLC sponsored trip ahead of the National Jamboree. In the past the council has taken the Scouts to Washington D.C. to tour the museums and tour the monuments and a water park. This year the committee is searching out other potential options.

Are there campership available to Scouts attending the National Jamboree?

In the past, the Central Region office of the Boy Scout of America has offered scholarships.  At this time, no information has been supplied. The GLC National Jamboree Committee is putting together a scholarship program for our members. More information about this will be coming out in 2012.

How long will it take after the adult leader interviews to know who has been selected as the contingent leadership?

It will take the committee 2-3 weeks to review and start notifying the selected Scoutmasters.

As a visitor, will I be able to see my son if he’s part of the GLC Contingent for the National Jamboree?

The National Jamboree Committee hasn’t published information on this as of today. In the past, the answer would have been YES. The new Jamboree site has a separate visitor event sections which lends us to believe that the answer might be NO.

Are there added expenses above the $1,500 Fee to attend the National Jamboree?

YES, Your son will need spending money, each jamboree troop will have projects or custom T-shirts, some food money at the Jamboree, and an inventory of patches to trade. This could be as little as $100 and up. This all depends on your son.

I'm having trouble linking my parent account to my Scout account.

It’s best to log off from both accounts and then log back on as the parent.

What is the Parent Approval Process?

Log back into your parent account, then click on the Modify Application link about half way down the page, this will open up your son’s accounts page. Go to the bottom of the page and click on the submit button. You are complete at this point.

What percentage complete should my son registration be at after I register him on the Summit Jamboree website?

30%, this means you have linked the proper accounts together and have submitted

When can I purchase Jamboree-specific patches and/or patch sets?

A Jamboree Shoulder Patch set will exist for the Great Lakes Council contingent, but has not yet been designed. A design contest and eventually order forms will be released closer to the Jamboree. In the meantime, there will be a two patch Jamboree Fundraiser set. Watch glcscouting.org for information pertaining to the fundraiser patches to be released late summer 2012.
