Great Lakes Council Advertising Policy

It is the policy of Great Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America that no advertising or promotional materials will be placed in the council service centers or distributed without approval from the council. All advertisers will be placed into one of two categories: Paid and Council Partner.

Paid Advertisers would include for profit businesses or organizations promoting a product or event. The most common businesses to fall into this category would be caterers, magicians, and jugglers promoting their product for pack blue and gold banquets. Paid advertisers must submit the Advertiser Contract.
Council Partner Advertisers are those whose product or event provides a real and substantial benefit to the Scouts or makes a contribution back to the council based on the number of participants or tickets sold. An example of this would be a professional sports team promoting Scout Day by offering tickets at a discounted price to the Scouts, and, at the same time, donating a specific amount back to the council per ticket sold.

Paid advertising may only be distributed at the district roundtables and/or by being placed in the appropriate location in the Scout service centers. The determination of category will be at the discretion of the Great Lakes Council, BSA.

Why Should I Advertise With Great Lakes Council?

  • Members of the Boy Scouts of America are youthful, service-minded, and outdoor-oriented families and volunteers.
  • New members join year-round.
  • Your business will be viewed as a resource to hundreds of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews.

Advertising Options

With that many members to keep up to date, communication is very important. The primary method we use to distribute printed information to our members and Scouting families is through the leader's roundtable. Held in each of our eight districts, this roundtable is a monthly meeting where the leaders and parents of each Cub Scout pack (boys, age 6-10), Boy Scout troop (boys, age 11-17), and Venturing crew (coed, age 14-20) get a majority of the program and event information used in their units. You may choose to distribute to one or more districts at the per district cost, or cover the entire council. The choice is yours.
